Athi River Smart City Master Plan

Prepared for a 1,725-hectare greenfield site in Athi River, Kenya, the project established a comprehensive smart city master plan for future growth within the Nairobi Metropolitan Region. The framework integrated residential neighbourhoods, commercial and employment districts, public facilities and sustainable infrastructure systems.

Structured around the Athi River and its tributary valleys, the plan preserved key ecological assets as a network of green infrastructure, public spaces and environmental buffers. Diverse housing typologies, mixed-use centres and community facilities supported a self-sufficient, walkable and transit-accessible urban structure.

The project also incorporated smart city strategies, renewable-energy systems and phased development scenarios, balancing economic growth, environmental protection and long-term urban resilience.
