Project Overview
A comprehensive urban landscape and design guideline was prepared for Istanbul's 1,600-hectare Historic Peninsula. The project established a strategic framework for streets, avenues, squares, parks and open spaces, aiming to improve public-realm quality while balancing heritage conservation with contemporary urban needs.
The study analysed urban morphology, heritage assets, mobility networks, public spaces, green infrastructure and pedestrian activity patterns. These findings informed design principles and implementation standards for different urban character zones.
The guideline addressed pedestrian-oriented streetscapes, universal accessibility, climate-responsive landscape design, green infrastructure, public furniture, lighting, paving, planting and public-space management.
