Hopa District City Centre Idea Project in the Context of a Coastal Settlement

Developed as the First Prize-winning proposal in a national urban design competition organised by Hopa Municipality, the project reimagined a 45-hectare riverfront district along the Hopa Stream and Black Sea waterfront, establishing an integrated framework for public space, ecological resilience and reconnection with the natural environment.

Nature-based solutions, landscape interventions and resilient urban design strategies addressed recurring flood risks while transforming the river corridor into a vibrant and accessible public realm. An interconnected network of parks, promenades, recreational facilities and civic spaces increased public access to the waterfront.

By integrating flood management, ecological restoration and public-space improvement, the project established a resilient development framework preserving local character and supporting an inclusive coastal environment.
