Istanbul Historic Peninsula Urban Mobility Strategy Plan

The Historic Peninsula Transportation Strategy Plan established a comprehensive, data-driven mobility framework to improve accessibility, reduce traffic congestion and support sustainable transportation across Istanbul's UNESCO World Heritage Site. The project was developed through extensive transportation analyses, mobility assessments, literature review, international best-practice research, field observations and spatial data analysis to identify existing transportation challenges and future mobility demands.

The strategy defined 6 strategic themes, 9 planning objectives, 28 project categories and 238 individual projects, creating a comprehensive implementation framework for the district. A structured prioritisation methodology was developed to evaluate projects according to implementation feasibility, expected impact, cost, timeline, institutional responsibility and their contribution to strategic objectives.

Alternative implementation scenarios and a 25-year phased investment roadmap were prepared to guide municipal decision-making, promoting pedestrian-oriented urban mobility, integrated public transport, low-carbon transportation and resilient urban logistics.
