Istanbul Historic Peninsula Urban Transformation Strategy Plan

Project Overview

The Historic Peninsula Urban Regeneration Strategy Plan established a comprehensive, evidence-based framework to guide urban regeneration priorities across Istanbul's UNESCO World Heritage Site. Developed through extensive GIS-based spatial analyses, risk assessments, socio-economic evaluations, property and building inventories, infrastructure studies and more than 3,000 citizen surveys, the project identified the district's physical, social, economic and environmental challenges.

The strategy prioritised regeneration areas according to seismic risk, urban vulnerability, implementation feasibility and public demand, creating a phased implementation roadmap for municipal action. The document defined investment priorities, established project sequencing and implementation schedules, and provided a decision-support framework for coordinating regeneration initiatives while protecting the Historic Peninsula's cultural heritage.
